Being a blogger, I can easily admit to having some addictive traits that aren't always a good thing. I think it just comes with the territory when you are your own boss and have only yourself to answer to. Here are some of the things I find myself obsessing over that I'm sure hampers many of your daily routines while trying to build up your blog.
The Stat Monster!
Are you obsessing over your numbers? Your traffic? Your income? Are you stressing over every single click you get to your affiliates or Adsense? Not good my friends! I definitely found myself in this trap for the first few months and have finally started to back off. It can stress the hell out of you so stop it!
Set a time each day or week and make that the only time you allow yourself to "stat binge."
Twitter Whore!
That's right Odenized! I've only just begun my quest into the world of Twitter and I can tell that some people really are obsessed with it! If you are spending more time Tweetin' than writing great articles you have a problem.
Combine using Twitter for hours with the extra couple of hours you are "stat monstering" and you have run out of time to build your traffic!
Social Media Jungle!
Yes social media is a freakin' great thing and I think we can all admit that, but how much time are you spending on it? Are you submitting everything to Digg, BallHype and YardBarker? We did cover the topic of spamming Digg and the others yesterday and sure enough a fan threw it up on Digg! (Oh the irony.)
Sending material to these is fine, but taking another hour to add new friends and hype 100 different submissions can be a huge time waster when you should be writing!
An Encyclopedia of RSS Subscriptions?
How many subscriptions do you have to other blogs? Yeah that's what I thought. Maybe you should cut that number down a little to under 20? Reading your rivals' and friends' blogs should be a daily task but at what point will you realize that your whole day is spent reading rather than working on that next great piece?
Set out some time early in the day to read the bid dogs and maybe on a lunch break take some time to read the rest. You need to be up-to-date but you don't need to be obsessing!
Master of the Entrecard Universe!
Entrecard seems like a great thing to "waste" time on but the results or impact of it have yet to be determined. We are obviously still running our Entrecard experiment and will definitely share those results with you as soon as we have them, but know when to stop dropping! Luckily Entrecard put a 300 drop cap on your asses or I'm sure some of you would still be dropping into the wee hours of the night.
The sad thing is I can drop 300 in about 15-20 minutes now, but still, you should stop it! (Ok I can obsess over some things too.)

This last 6 weeks when I decided to "monetize" I learned about the pain. Nonstop. It can get crazy. I'm now referring family to the blog if they want to know what I'm doing..
excellent tips. It can get even worse when you are trying to do it all for 2 or more blogs.
I check out my rss feeds a few times a day but really only get into them when I get up in the morning.
I have lost interest in entrecard although I have made some good finds that way (The Sports Dollar).
I don't really see much traffic out of it but I do get to step out of the usual blogs I read and find some new good ones.
Yeah my RSS reader has been cut back recently after I slowly realized some of the blogs on it weren't really worth it.
But Entrecard, for some reason I keep giving it a shot...we'll see what happens with the 50+ ads I just bought. :) Then it might be time to call it quits there.
