Now, by no means am I a Technorati expert and that's not necessarily a bad thing. My authority has started to climb recently which feels good but the one thing I've really noticed lately is that my actual ranking has started to rise dramatically.
So no one talks about this, but I'm almost positive that your actually Technorati ranking is effected by your number of "Fans". I couldn't find proof anywhere, but I've noticed the workings of it.
So here is the test!
- Add the Sports Dollar as a favorite of yours on Technorati
- Leave a comment telling me what you've done with your Technorati favorite link and I'll immediately favorite you back
If none of you see a jump in ranking, feel free to drop me with a 7 iron...

It has a little to do with favs, but mostly with links. The sports dollar contest has tons to do with your Technorati ranking. TONS. You have had several blogs linking to you.
Every link new link gives you an authority. Every link after that from the same blog helps out just a little bit.
Because of your contest, you have had several new links from many new blogs.
That is just what i think. I actually favoritted you an hour before you posted this. :-)

My authority has definitely skyrocketed because of recent contests but the key I've noticed has to be favorites and I'm surprised people haven't noticed this sooner.

I'm with ethan on this one. I think authority is a way more important influence on your ranking than favorites. However, trying doesn't hurt. :)
