Welcome to the second edition of our Top 50 Sports Blogs!  You may notice some changes this time around and we hope that these changes mean a more rounded and well represented ranking system.  We took feedback from our last and applied some of it by choosing to go with Google's new Ad Planner over Alexa.

Ad Planner provides the number of unique visitors a site receives per month, so we took that and threw it into our amazingly-complex-statistically-guru'd ranking scale and came up with a new 1-10 scale to fit our other ranking systems.

The other major change you'll notice is the removal of all major blogs affiliated with a major news site such as ESPN, the Boston Globe, Yahoo, etc.  The stats for these blogs aren't as easy to come by and are typically inflated while they leach off of their parents.

This new look definitely opened the door for some smaller blogs to jump in the top 50, and that's the way we plan on keeping it!  We had these bad boys almost ready to go last week and then PageRanks were updated so we found it only fitting to wait and redo.

Oh, and here are the 1st Quarter Rankings...

Enjoy!

Fun info as always -- interesting choice on the category change.

Great move to eliminate the Network blogs. Inflation be damned.

Also, question on Ad Planner. If you don't run Google ads, do you get penalized?

Kellex - love the change. Now maybe our growing blog can make the list at some point.

Explanation of the Google Ad Planner would be nice.

Sorry about that Dannie...I've added a little blurb about it now. Basically Ad Planner is a wonderful marketing tool if you are looking to buy or sell ad space online. We used the number of unique visitors to sites and converted it to a 1-10 scale.

You should create a widget or something that would allow bloggers with sites outside the top 50 to calculate their own score, for a comparison. Just a thought. Thanks for the list.

I would love to...but I'm definitely not that smart. :)

Maybe in the future I can have some person with real skill do that for me!

Good to see you made it to the top of Ballhype with this one! Nice work!

Great job as usual Kellex. I would really like to be on this list, but these bloggers deserve it a lot more. This is not a magic ranking that just pops up. This is a ranking that represents a ton of talent and hard work.

I hope Anonymous can shut his pie hole this time :-)

  9. kellex // August 1, 2008 8:01 PM

But Anonymous provides us all with such great conversation though!

Interesting, a lot of blogs that I'll gonna checkout and look into.

You can't beat the 'amazingly-complex-statistically-guru' system that creates this Top 50. Perfect!

  12. kellex // August 4, 2008 7:08 AM

    Damn right Ryne!

Would you mind showing me the algorithm for your rankings? I could probably widgetize this for you. Just need to know how you scale all the metrics to 1-10.
