Sitemeter's Migration and Updates

Posted 9/8/08

I just wanted to let everyone know that Sitemeter is undergoing an overhaul this coming weekend that will affect you, well sort of.  The new platform they'll introduce should provide more accurate info all around to help you really capitalize on your traffic.

You can check out their migration facts at the Sitemeter blog.

And for those of you not using Sitemeter, can I ask why?  It is easily my favorite traffic tracking program.

I use Sitemeter because I am anal and want all the data I can get. But to your question why someone would not use it - Google Analytics. I rarely check my Sitemeter stats because I find Google Analytics interface and functionality much better.

Truthfully, there is something about Google Analytics that bugs the hell out of me. I rarely check it.

Sitemeter's data seems to be more timely and the current interface at least is super easy to use.

I use Google Analytics if I'm really looking at some trends and that's about it. And of course their keyword data is top notch.

The other part is I have up to the second stats via a wordpress stats plugin. So I have basic stats such as pageviews, referers, click tracking etc. right in my blog dashboard.

Like you said I use Google Analytics for more depth and Sitemeter as a checks and balance to make sure things are aligning up fairly close.

Hopefully with this migration, Sitemeter will display more accurate stats. At least that's what they are saying is going to happen.

Yeah I was reading up on it. I don't have the premium service so I don't know if they give more data with that package, but Google Analytics is free and gives you everything.

I am actually going to post something about metrics on sports blog earnings today.

Sitemeter's my go-to guy for the basic numbers and referer details, but I use pMetrics for the more in-depth tracking. It's definitely worth the tiny fee of $3.99 per month.

pMetrics huh? I may have to check that out.

I've been back and forth about using Pmetrics stats plugin instead of the free basic Wordpress Stats plugin. It looks really great. Will have to revisit.

I am very disappointed with the migration - site meter, while perhaps flawed, at least gave us an idea of who and how many were on and where they came from (Referring URL). The new platform, that info gets lost. Analytics always seems retroactive and, well, "analytic" whereas we preferred real-time data. Thoughts?

I guess I'm not necessarily noticing that the new platform is live yet. Is it?

I'm hoping that the real time stats stay live since that is basically the reason I use the service.

What are you noticing Sir Reynolds?

It is also possible that my account hasn't been switched over yet.

Weird - over the weekend they migrated over and shortly after they reverted back to the old platform. At first we couldnt access the old one, and now you cant access the new one.

Im guessing they might have gotten a ton of complaints and are working out bugs.
