Submitting Other's Work to Social Sites - Be Careful!

Everyone loves to have a solid group of friends that will submit their stuff to social media sites, right?  You feel like your work is starting to mean something, people are interested in your work, and you are finally writing some quality material that wouldn’t embarrass someone to submit.  This is a pretty cool time for any sports blogger!  Plus, the social media sites won’t hate on you for submitting your own garbage anymore!

But there are a couple of things that should be pointed out if you are one of those ever so generous folk that submits other’s work.

1.  Post titles, double check them!  If you submit a story for someone, make sure you get the title correct.  There is nothing more frustrating than your story getting submitted by someone to Digg and then have the title wrong.

2.  That title was written for a reason!  Try not to change the title of the post when you submit to a social site.  Almost all of them let you type in your own title, but to tell you the truth, it comes off as a little disrespectful.  It’s like telling me that the title I created on my own post, sucked.  Be careful.

3.  Category is soooooooo important!  Make sure that the category you choose fits with the original post or material.  If I write a story about the TV show Survivor, please don’t list it in “Action Movies”.  Don’t be afraid to ask the site owner which category they’d like it listed in.

4.  Your negative profile is killing me!  If you have negative or low “rep” on a social site, please do not submit others’ posts.  Yeah, that sounds a little negative but seriously, if I work extra hard on some linkbait piece and the wrong person submits it to a site, all that hard work basically just swirled and swooshed right down the drain.

Anything else anyone has to point out when others submit your work to social media sites?

Great topic is right!

We've had that happen with digg and stumble where our site gets submitted by someone with a negative rep and it kills the traffic potential.

I like all these lessons in etiquette for readers, and the ones the other day for the blogger too. Both are useful for different reasons.

Glad you like these topics. They are going to be the focus for a while, as I've really been noticing a lack of etiquette amongst sports bloggers in general. It's time to touch on it!
