Week 8 NFL Power Rankings - Sports Dollar's Weekly

Monday, October 20, 2008

Posted 10/20/08

It's week 8 and we just had another week chalked full of randomness.  Can anyone explain what the hell is going on in the NFL this year?  Kerry Collins is leading a team that is undefeated, the Colts, Chargers, and Cowboys all suck, and the Buffalo Bills actually look to be the real deal.  It has been an impossible season to predict anything except the amount of frustration you will have every Monday morning.  With that said, here are the latest NFL Power Rankings from the Sports Dollar.

1.  Tennessee Titans
2.  Pittsburgh Steelers
3.  New York Giants
4.  Buffalo Bills
5.  Carolina Panthers
6.  Tampa Bay Buccaneers
7.  Atlanta Falcons
8.  Arizona Cardinals
9.  Chicago Bears
10.  Green Bay Packers
11.  New England Patriots
12.  Washington Redskins
13.  Jacksonville Jaguars
14.  Denver Broncos
15.  Philadelphia Eagles
16.  New York Jets
17.  Indianapolis Colts*
18.  Dallas Cowboys
19.  New Orleans Saints
20.  San Diego Chargers
21.  Minnesota Vikings
22.  Baltimore Ravens
23.  Houston Texans
24.  Oakland Raiders
25.  St. Louis Rams
26.  Miami Dolphins
27.  San Francisco 49ers
28.  Cleveland Browns
29.  Kansas City Chiefs
30.  Seattle Seahawks
31.  Cincinnati Bengals
32.  Detroit Lions

*The Indianapolis Colts are the most disappointing team of the season thus far.  The Chargers are giving them a close run for that top spot, but after Peyton Manning's completely ridiculous performance against the Packers this Sunday, it'll be hard to de-throne them anytime soon.  Should it really take almost 3 tries to win in your brand new stadium?

Panthers over the Bucs? Didn't the Bucs shut them down 27-3 just like two weeks ago?

#12 redskins? arent they 5 of 7 in one of the toughest divisions in football?

Anonymous said...

Well, I have to say that division probably isn't the toughest anymore, seeing as Dallas has lost their starting QB and got smashed by the Rams... Who are the Rams?

Indeed, the NFC South is really looking like the toughest division right now and the Bucs completely embarrased both the Falcons and the Panthers. The Bucs at #6? I don't think so!

I agree that the Bucs have some big wins, but with a weak performance against Seattle (possibly the worst team in football), and Carolina absolutely dominating the Saints, that's where I gave them the edge.

And I didn't want to have another Redskins discussion this week, but that #12 is a gift.

They lost to the ridiculously sorry Rams and should have lost to the pathetic Browns. I no longer consider a win over the Cowboys to be a key win, plus a win over an Eagles team with a gimped Westbrook is also not as impressive.

Kellex, did you even watch the skins game? They dominated the line of scrimmage the whole time. FYI = Portis is the number 1 rusher right now.

A gift? Beating the Cowboys(healthy) is a pretty big win. The Redskins are the ones responsible for Westbrook being gimped. The browns rocked your number 3 team so they can't be that bad. I think you would avoid the Redskins conversations if you showed them the respect they deserve. Though, maybe you are right, maybe 12th place is a gift for a team that has the 7th ranked offense and the 6th ranked defense in the league. Good Work.

p.s.- didn't have much of a problem with the ranking until you deemed it a "gift." Although still a couple of spots too low.

"Dominating the line of scrimmage" does not give your team elite status especially when that only turns into 14 points against the BROWNS.

And other Anonymous, you know I had to throw out the Redskins remark just to get you going. :P

Oh and btw, Westbrook came into that game injured after missing a week...

kellex you are a moron the bucs dominated the entire game against the seahawks it was by no means a terrible performance, the score didnt indicate how the game went, christ they outgained them by like 220 yards or suttin give me a break

He did come after missing the previous week but didn't play at a lower level because of that. He played at a lower level because he got his ribs broken by the #6 defense in the NFL.

wow. whoever made these rankings has no idea what hes talking about. broncos just got slaughtered. skins beat the browns who just slaughtered the giants and yet the giants are still way up there and skins are way down. bucs destroyed the panthers. the rams clearly shouldnt be a bottom tier team anymore. cardinals lost to skins and jets and yet are way higher than them. Broncos net pts: -22 Eagles: +44
shall i continue?

Kellex - Again, did you watch the game or you're just talking from your rear?

These were the same Browns that legitimately destroyed the Giants without Winslow. And the Brows team (w/ Winslow) that were beaten by the Skins.

Believe this any team can win on any given Sunday, at first the cowboys division looked the strongest, but after the following weeks the nfc south has came out stronger then people thought! I kno the Buc's killed Carolina but Carolina might be the most balanced team in the NFL!

While the South has become a much more competitive division then we have seen in the past. I think it may be a bit to early to claim that it is a better division then the NFC East. Definitely just as competitive though.

kellex said...

Can you really consider the NFC East to be a dominant division any longer? I sure as hell wouldn't.

The NFC South looks good, the NFC Central is competitive as hell, and the AFC South has the only undefeated team left in football.

In my rankings, I would consider the top 12 teams (yes that includes the Redskins) to all be extremely close while the rest of the league has either been a disappointment or flat out sucks.

Showing annoyance with Bucs being one spot behind the Panthers is ridiculous.

And whoever the hell said that Rams should not be considered a complete waste of space needs to have their head examined.

I think kellex is a poser, he watches Desperate Housewives on Sunday's and not NFL.

The NFC east is the only division without a team below .500.

I assume you mean the NFC North when you refer to the NFC Central division. There are two teams below .500, one of which is 0-6. I don't think many people would consider that "competitive as hell."

The AFC South does have the only undefeated team, but the other 3 teams are 3-3 or worse. Not a good example.

kellex said...

Yes the North.

How is a division with 4-3, 4-3, 3-4 not competitive as hell? I didn't say it was better than the NFC East, I said it was "competitive."

And I would still take the AFC South over the NFC East any day no matter what the records this year show.

The NFC East over the last 2 weeks has not looked so hot.

For a division to be very competitive all 4 teams should probably be involved. The Lions at 0-6 have made that a 3 horse race.

I think the Titans, Jags, and Colts would be a great game with any of the teams in the NFC East. I don't think the Texans would have as good a chance against any of the teams in the NFC East.

I can agree the division hasn't looked to great the past 2 weeks. They still have a better record this year.
